Coronavirus – suspension of club activities

We find ourselves in unchartered waters with the Coronavirus whereby advice seems to be changing on a daily basis.

On behalf of the Committee and myself, it is timely and necessary to provide written statements updating you on using RSC’s facilities and our boats for the foreseeable future.

These are attached:–

  • Statement from John Cranwell Ward, Boat Husband with recommendations – see below.

Once the situation changes either I or another Committee member will email all members. Thank you.

In the meantime, keep safe and well.

Best Wishes

Chris

John Cranwell Ward, RCSSC Boat Husband: Statement with Recommendations – dated 19th March 2020

“As you know we were due to step the masts and prepare the boats for the sailing season this weekend.

Naturally like all members I have been monitoring the COVID –19 situation for the last two weeks to see if we could go ahead.

But the situation has changed dramatically at alarming speed in the last few days and we now have several members self-isolating.

I had thought even a few days ago that if we limited sailing to two members per boat and washed our hands, wore sailing gloves, washed the boats before and after sailing we would be able to sail.

But it is obvious now that in our situation that it is no longer safe, with multiple persons using the boats, the tractor, the extension bar and the club facilities.

Therefore I am recommending that we do not step the masts, we do not use the boats and leave the boats with their winter covers on until further notice.

CSSC have cancelled all events including Taster Days until the end of June, and this seems to be line with most other bodies.

Naturally we will get sailing again as soon as it is safe to do so, and will be monitoring Government advice closely.

Meanwhile I will be keeping an eye on the boats.

If any member disagrees and wishes to discuss this then please contact myself or Chris Peck.

I have read today that Wuhan Province reported no new cases of Corona Virus yesterday, so light at the end of the tunnel”.

all the best
