Fancy a sail? Cathy Todd contacted RCSSC through the website in September looking to join RCSSC with her husband Andy for a taster sail. The weather and circumstances made getting together a challenge, but tenacity on both sides,Sunday with reasonable winds and a dry forecast, and it happened.
A few calls and emails found Cathy and Andy Todd meeting up with RCSSC members Chris Peck, Stewart Snowball, Mike Threadgill and Dave Grundy, along with Cathy Snowball and rigging Lift Off and Satyr for a sail.
With three other Open Events at RSC (Contender Inland Championships, Osprey Final Fling and Hornet Open the lake was busy, but with so much water there was still plenty of lake to explore.
For once the weather forecast behaved itself and, as forecast, the wind dropped to a F3-4 and the Sun shone brightly – a stunning Autumn sail.
Andy & Cathy sailed on Satyr, with Dave Grundy and Mike Threadgill and both had time on the helms.
After helping us put the boats away, so they stay nice and dry for the next member to sail them, we adjourned for a cuppa in the lounge and chatted about sailing and Andy and Mike discovered they shared another passion ‘Cars’ – so, coupled with talking about the days sailing experience, the conversation flowed as we watched the sun setting over Rutland Water from the Club House.
Our main performance indicator, for our tasters, is the size of our guests smile at the end of the day. Judging from the photo and conversation afterwards in the bar, a good time was had by all and we look forward to Cathy and Andy joining us again.
